At the 8th meeting of the JVET of ITU-T and ISO, the Joint Call for Proposals on Video Compression with Capability beyond HEVC has been released. The CfP document can be found here: [link]
Responses to the Call will be evaluated at the MPEG / VCEG / JCT-VC / JVET meeting in April 2018 in San Diego, USA.
The potential kick-off for the development of a new generation video compression standard is emerging. The informal Joint Video Exploration Team (JVET) of ITU-T SG16 and MPEG has issued a draft Call for Evidence (CfE) [link] at its meeting in January which has been approved by its partent bodies. The final CfE document is forseen to be approved by the following meeting in April 2017.
At the October 2015 meeting of ITU-T SG16/Q6 VCEG and ISO/IEC JTC1 SC29WG11 MPEG, both organizations have founded a joint team for exploration of future video coding technology, see [link].
